Biography and career
Internationally recognized Czech artist working in printmaking, drawing and painting. His graphic language combines technical mastery with deeply human imagery.
Style, subjects and techniques
His work addresses time, the vulnerability of the human body and memory through various intaglio techniques; not all his prints are mezzotints.
The mezzotint technique
Mezzotint is an intaglio printmaking technique capable of producing deep blacks and smooth gradations of light. The surface of a metal plate is worked to create different tonal values. Each artist’s relationship to the technique must be assessed individually.
